January 2004 ARTIST: DEVIL DRIVER TITLE: SELF TITLED RECORD LABEL: Roadrunner REVIEW BY: Michael Delgado With the name Devil Driver it’s obvious you’ll be hearing harsh, death-metal screaming when you play this band’s latest, self titled album. In efforts to set themselves apart, lead vocalist, Dez Fafara, sounds particularly more demonic than the average hardcore band, unleashing guttural howls; you can picture his tongue sticking out even farther than usual. Managing an impressive feat, the lyrics are still quite distinguishable, while in an instant his screams reach the roaring, sonic levels you’d hear if you found yourself hurtling through a wind tunnel at 200 mph. If you ever want to clearly relate how much you hate someone with a song dedication, this album is just rife with excellent selections, for example: “Die (And Die Now)” GRADE: B-
